IC Information:
Name: Luke fon Fabre
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss
Timeline: Shortly after meeting Van for a second time after Absorption Gate, where they rescue Florian
Age: 17 (physically), 7 (actually)
Appearance: Rather on the short side for a guy, Luke has tealish-green eyes and distinctive red hair that spikes a little, frames his face and forms a little duckbutt in the back. It doesn't reach any lower than his shoulders. He's fairly well-developed physically and well-muscled, having spent months fighting and traveling. His taste in clothing is eccentric, with him rarely being seen without his trademark white jacket with gold trim and black demon face on the back, baggy pants, and black shirt which leaves his midriff exposed and dem abs visible
Abilities: Generally speaking, Luke is mainly a physical fighter, with no extraordinary special abilities. He fights with his sword, and occasionally can use several techniques called "artes," though most artes just function as fancy sword moves. There are some exceptions among these artes - some are able to create a small "force" or "shockwave" - such as Raging Blast and Demon Fist. Others do have a small elemental effect, such as Slag Assault (Earth) and Devil's Inferno (Fire), though these effects are nothing on the elemental effects that pure magic-users can make.

There is one exception though, and it's a pretty damn notable one. Luke, as a perfect isofon of Asch - who is a perfect isofon of Lorelei who is pretty much a deity in Auldrant - has the power of hyperresonance. Hyperresonance is extremely, extremely dangerous when not controlled. It can be used to break down and reform matter, though more often than not it's used for the former.

To put it in plain terms, Luke's hyperresonance can break matter down at the atomic level, until even the dust is gone. His isn't as powerful as Asch's is, and he's been working to control it, but it's still powerful enough that Luke is able to destroy a giant pillar holding up part of the planet's crust and singlehandedly decimate an entire town of 10,000 people.
Personality: (What is your character like? Good? Bad? How do they get along with others? One paragraph or more please.)
History: The original "Luke fon Fabre" - son of Duke Fabre, betrothed to Princess Natalia and tertiary heir to the throne of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear - was kidnapped at the age of ten by a man named Van Grants, who wished to use the power of hyperresonance in his plot of overturning the Score, destroying the world and replacing it and its people with replicas. He took "Luke" to an old, mostly abandoned castle owned by his father, and there he used a forbidden use of a technology known as fomicry. Fomicry can be used to create replicas - copies - though use of it on living creatures is forbidden. Through this process, the Luke fon Fabre known in canon (and the one in this app) was born.

Van then took the original Luke with him to Daath where he eventually adopted the name of "Asch the Bloody". The replica Luke, meanwhile was left abandoned at Choral Castle to be found by his frantically searching "parents" and their soldiers. He was brought back to the capital, Baticul, where he was examined and it was determined that he had a very severe form of amnesia - the doctors not realizing he was practically a newborn baby in a ten year-old's body.

Luke spent the next seven years in isolation. After his kidnapping, partially because of the fact that the culprits were still unknown and at large, it was decided that he would not be allowed to leave the manor until he became an adult at age 20. Luke spent most of that time learning to function - how to walk and talk and read and write, with the help of Natalia and especially with the help of his best friend and servant Guy Cecil. During that time, he also took up sword training under the tutelage of the leader of the Oracle Knights (Auldrant's theocracy), Van Grants.

This continued until shortly after Luke turned seventeen. While training with Van, a mysterious assassin broke into Fabre Manor in an attempt to slay Luke's mentor. Luke attempted to stop her, but an incomplete hyperresonance occurred instead, blasting them far into enemy territory. The assassin apologized for involving him, introduced herself as Tear, and said she would escort Luke home. There were a few blunders. They ended up going the wrong way. Luke doesn't know how to shop and they almost get arrested. They actually DO get arrested later, for crossing the border between Kimlasca and Malkuth illegally.

Only there's a little more to it than that. Jade Curtiss - Malkuth general and close friend of Emperor Peony - is actually on a mission to prevent a war, with Fon Master Ion (leader of that theocracy I mentioned earlier) and his Fon Master Guardian, Anise helping him. Two party members plus one important NPC get. Turns out they want Luke's political status to help them get back to Kimlasca's capital. Luke agrees to help, before they're ambushed. Luke finds out he has a strong aversion to killing people even if he has to defend himself. It nearly gets him actually killed, until Guy - who's been searching for Luke since he disappeared - makes a very dramatic entrance and saves him. Anise is also separated at this time. The next day, Luke comes to the resolution that he will fight - and even kill - people to defend himself if necessary. Despite this, he still struggles with it for the rest of the game.

After that, It's a hunt to find Anise, and they finally catch up with her at the border, where they also meet Van, who has also been searching for Luke. They head for the port, take a detour to Choral Castle to save a hostage, Luke is briefly kidnapped and has some stuff that involves a lot of Abyss jargon done to him on the same fomicry machine he was born in, then they head for home. On the way, Luke nearly loses control of an unexpected hyperresonance, only to be "saved" by his teacher, who explained that the reason Luke was locked up was to keep his powers in Kimlascan hands, and the solution was to stop the war and become a hero.

Spurred on by these ideas, when they arrive back in Baticul, Luke helps Ion and Jade get into see King Ingobert, before going home. The next day, Luke is selected as an ambassador to help move the refugees in Akzeriuth to safety and thereby stop the war, partially because the Score says he will. To get Luke to comply, they agree to let him work with Van if he chooses to go. Luke agrees readily, and goes to see Van.

During their meeting, Van tells Luke that the Score Luke had been told about going to Akzeriuth was incomplete, and that Luke's going to Akzeriuth and removing the refugees would start a war and lose him all the freedom he'd won. He also tells Luke that he kidnapped him to save him from the fate of being a pawn of Kimlasca. In reality, most of these are all half-truths, though Luke doesn't know it. But he also tells Luke of a plan to use Luke's hyperresonance to neutralize the miasma rather than move the refugees, thus preventing the war and allowing Van and Luke to escape to Daath. Above all, Van tells Luke he must not tell anyone of the plan.

The people selected to go with Luke to Akzeriuth are - surprise! - all the people who helped escort him home, save Anise, who joins soon enough because Ion's been kidnapped again. Van also splits off from the party as a decoy, much to Luke's dismay. But he and the party attempt to leave Baticul undetected by their opposition through an old abandoned factory, where Natalia - Luke's cousin and fiancee - blackmails her way into the party, since she overheard Luke talking to Van earlier. They manage to get outside, only to find some of the God-generals waiting outside with the kidnapped Ion. Luke attacks one of them, only to be stunned when it turns out to be someone with his exact same face - Asch.

Asch escapes with Ion, and the party gives chase across the Zao Desert. At a stop in the Oasis, Luke gets a headache and hears Asch speaking in his head, telling him that Ion is at the Zao Ruins and to come get him. They do so, and head on to Akzeriuth. On the way there, Asch takes control of Luke's body briefly and tries to make Luke attack Tear. Finally they're heading up the road to Akzeriuth and Luke - wanting to press on to meet Van - is careless and cruel with his words and actions, earning the ire of most of the party. Then, they're attacked by one of the other God-generals, Legretta, who tries to convince Tear to join their side and calls Luke a "defective thing." Jade loses his temper briefly. They press on.

Finally at Akzeriuth itself, Tear is briefly called away on business while the rest of the party descends into a mine shaft to help some people trapped there. Luke and Ion are separated from the party where they meet Van. Van takes Ion and Luke down to a strange area filled with delicate machinery. Asch tries to take control of Luke again, telling him to stop. Luke ignores him. Then, outside, Tear and Asch catch up with the party and insist they need to find Van and Luke, as Van is trying to destroy Akzeriuth.

Van meanwhile, forces Luke to produce a much larger hyperresonance than he can control, destroying the Passage Ring and knocking Luke unconcious. He escapes after nabbing Asch, and Tear uses her Fonic hymns to protect the party as the city falls into the Qliphoth. Simply put, Auldrant's crust is suspended in midair to escape the deadly sea of poisonous mud called miasma, and Luke destroyed one of the pillars (the Passage Ring) holding it up. He had destroyed the entire city of Akzeriuth and killed the 10,000 people inside it. When Luke wakes up and is confrontend with this reality, along with Van's betrayal, Luke goes into denial and attempts to shove off the blame, resulting in the party each dealing him some pretty harsh words and leaving him emotionally broken on the deck of the Tartarus (which fell along with Akzeriuth).

The party travels to the only city in the Qliphoth, Yulia City. Once there, the party is confronted by Asch, who attacks Luke and reveals that Luke is a replica - though Jade, Ion and possibly Tear already knew by that point. Luke snaps at the revelation and attacks Asch. It's possible to lose or win this boss fight - I choose to go the losing route because it feels more plausible. Luke loses and falls unconscious.

When Luke awakes, he finds himself inside Asch's mind. Asch takes Luke "with" him while Asch returns to the Outer Lands (the planet's crust) to try to figure out what Van is doing. Most of the party joins Asch. Asch, with Luke spectating, first goes to the city of Belkend where it's revealed that Jade created fomicry, though he later forbade the creation of living replicas. Guy then leaves the party to go wait for Luke. Asch then travels to Ortion Cavern, then reveals to Luke that the city of St. Binah will probably fall next before kicking Luke out of his mind and back into his own body.

Luke awakens, finds Tear and after a brief discussion, makes the resolution that he has to change and cuts his hair. While preparing to return to the surface, they both learn that Akzeriuth's fall was predicted in the Score, and are treated with skepticism over their belief that St. Binah will fall as well. He and Tear return to the Outer Lands anyway, meet Guy and leave Aramis Spring, only to be stopped by Jade. As it happens, Ion and Natalia have been captured in Daath for trying to stop the war - which was also predicted in the Score.

They rejoin Anise in Daath, rescue Natalia and Ion, and head to Grand Chokmah - capital of Malkuth - to try and stop the war and see if St. Binah is falling, stopping along the way at Keterburg. Right outside Grand Chokmah, the party is ambushed by the God-generals wanting to kidnap Ion again. Sync uses a curse slot he placed on Guy to force Guy to attack Luke. The arrival of Malkuth soldiers forces the God-generals to flee and Guy collapses.

They get to Grand Chokmah itself and Ion offers to remove the curse slot, and at the same time reveals that the curse slot could only work if Guy had at one point wanted to kill Luke already. Luke is understandably upset about this, but after talking to Tear he's calm enough to go with the rest of the party to speak with Emperor Peony. Peony tells them that while relations with Kimlasca are very poor, St. Binah is falling. Luke offers to go help the city, and Peony agrees. Luke and Guy have a heart-to-heart moment before the party leaves to help St. Binah.

Due to interference, the party has to go to Sheridan to get an airship, but they're eventually able to get all the people out of St. Binah. They then try to save the city itself by manipulating St. Binah's passage ring so that the city at least wouldn't sink into the miasma, though their triumph is short-lived when they realize the nearby city of Engeve is in danger too. The party returns to the surface, only to find the war has started. They split up, half going to try to stop the war, the other to move Engeve's citizens to safety.

Eventually, their efforts lead them to reconvene in Chesedonia, which to their horror they realize is about to fall as well. They head to the Zao Ruins and the passage ring there, and have the passage ring lower the land slowly, like an elevator. They return to the surface and head to Daath to try to see if the Score has any information about the falling land. They find out there that Luke's existence is a contradiction of the Score, and that he was supposed to die at Akzeriuth.

At that point, the party is captured by Mohs and taken to Baticul, where Luke is sentenced to death for Akzeriuth and for being an imposter (since he's a replica of the "real" Luke fon Fabre), and Natalia for being an imposter as well (it's revealed that she was swapped for the real princess as a baby, since the princess was stillborn). Asch breaks them out and they flee Baticul, across Inista Marsh to Belkend, where they meet Asch and Van. Van tries to persuade Asch to join him, refuses to acknowledge Luke as more than garbage, and sends the party and Asch away.

Roleplay Sample - Log: (Written in third person, past tense, any setting [Changed 6/25! - 'any canon setting - or Facility based.'] )
Roleplay Sample - Journal: (Written in first person, IC, as though it were a journal entry.)

This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? I'm not going to lie, it'll be hard on him. But Luke has proven that he can be incredibly mentally resilient - the period around Akzeriuth was incredibly traumatic (finding out he killed 10,000 people when he hates killing, then finding out his idolized mentor had betrayed him in so many ways, THEN finding out he was only a replica, not the real Luke fon Fabre), and yet he gets out of it with minimal (though still existing) psychological aftereffects and is able to focus on saving the world. Not to mention from the canon point I've chosen for him, Luke will both be determined to get back home, and to live for his own sake, which will give him something to focus on to withstand the effects of what will happen to him.

Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements?  Those go here. According to Luke's canon point, he should be slowly dying from fonon separation, which for all intents and purposes functions as an incurable, chronic illness. I'm not sure that would work so well in a_fac's setting. I have played with it before though, so I can play it out if necessary. Will his condition still be in effect, or will it somehow be frozen or cured?

Portrayal of a character is a constant work in progress, so are there any problems you have with how I play Luke? Any advice you want to give? Things you think I'm doing well? If it's any or all of the above - or something else entirely so long as it's about how I play him, leave it here!
